Saturday 13th July was our summer food collection day at Widnes Tesco Extra. If you headed into Tesco you will have seen some of our team of volunteers greeting customers and encouraging them to pick up an extra item or two to drop in special donation trollies on the way out of store.

It was a really successful event, delivering 1091.8 kg of donated food and £282.26 in cash. We will also receive a 20% Top Up financial donation from Tesco.

Customers were asked to donate essential items of long-life food such as UHT Juice Tinned Potatoes, Soup and Tinned Fruit.

Thank you to anyone who donated items into our donation trollies. These really will make a big difference to our local community as we head into the summer period. Our volunteers enjoyed meeting and chatting to so many of you.

Lots goes on behind the scenes to set up food drive events like this, huge thanks to all our volunteers involved – from those you see welcoming Tesco shoppers, those who organise the rota to those who drive the increased donations to the warehouse for sorting. We really couldn’t do these events without our army of dedicated volunteers.

Food drives like this are so important to us, helping us combat a decline in food donations. 23% less stock was donated in 2023 compared with 2022. All food donations will be used to support people across our local area who are experiencing hardship and will be forced to use a food bank over the coming weeks.
