The Widnes Rotary Fundraising Gala dinner, held on the 11th May, at the Bridge Suite, in the DCBL Halton stadium, raised a whopping £10,000 for Widnes Foodbank. The event included a four course dinner, raffle, auction and entertainment.
Prizes for the raffle and auction were generously donated by local businesses and many of our volunteers attended, with Project Co-ordinator Vicky Ferguson giving a speech at the event.

Vicky explained how Widnes Foodbank was first set up in 2012, became a registered charity in 2013 and that since then the number of people provided with food has increased year on year.
Vicky said:
“We are seeing first time visitors coming to us as a last resort, we see working families, unable to stretch their money far enough to feed themselves and we see the shame and embarrassment on the faces of our local people as they walk through our door”.

Vicky explained how the Foodbank supplies parcels of food and toiletries to those in need and that it is the local community that helps the Foodbank to achieve this:
“We do not do this alone. We have been providing food for those in crisis since its initial concept in 2012 and we do this with the support from every corner of Widnes, including our local council, churches, independent and corporate businesses, and personal donations”
